James 3:13-18

13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him show his works out of good conduct and with the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if ye have bitter envy and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 Such wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envy and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of those who make peace.

Psalm 19

1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament showeth His handiwork.
2 Day upon day uttereth speech,
and night upon night showeth knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
where their voice is not heard.
4 Their sound has gone forth through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them hath He set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it; and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever;
the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is Thy servant warned,
and in keeping of them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors?
Cleanse Thou me from secret faults.
13 Keep back Thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me.
Then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent of the great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight,
O LORD, my Strength and my Redeemer.

Mark 9:14-29 

14 And when He came to His disciples, He saw a great multitude about them and the scribes questioning with them. 15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld Him, were greatly amazed; and running to Him, they greeted Him. 16 And He asked the scribes, 

"What question ye with them?" 

17 And one of the multitude answered and said, "Master, I have brought unto thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit. 18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him; and he foameth and gnasheth his teeth and pineth away. And I spoke to thy disciples that they should cast him out, and they could not." 19 Jesus answered him and said, 

"O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him unto Me." 

20 And they brought the boy unto Him. And when the spirit saw Him, straightway he tore the boy; and he fell on the ground and wallowed about foaming. 21 And He asked his father, 

"How long is it ago since this came unto him?" 

And he said, "From childhood. 22 And oftentimes it hath cast him into the fire and into the waters to destroy him; but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us and help us." 23 Jesus said unto him, 

"If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." 

24 And straightway the father of the child cried out and said with tears, "Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief!" 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, 

"Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him and enter no more into him." 

26 And the spirit cried, and rent the boy sorely and came out of him; and he was as one dead, insomuch that many said, "He is dead." 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. 

28 And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, "Why could not we cast him out?" 29 And He said unto them, 

"This kind can come forth by nothing but by prayer and fasting."

But he that knew not and committed things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
