The Lectionary
According to the Christian Seasons
James 5:7-11
7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the
husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience
for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. 8 Be ye also patient; make
firm your hearts, for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. 9 Grudge not one
against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned. Behold, the Judge standeth
before the door! 10 My brethren, take the prophets, who have spoken in the name
of the Lord, as an example of suffering affliction and of patience. 11 Behold,
we count them happy who endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have
seen the end of the Lord, how the Lord is full of pity and of tender mercy.
Psalm 103
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul;
and all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits- -
3 who forgiveth all thine iniquities,
who healeth all thy diseases,
4 who redeemeth thy life from destruction,
who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 who satisfieth thy mouth with good things,
so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
6 The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are
oppressed.
7 He made known His ways unto Moses, His acts unto the children of
Israel.
8 The LORD is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and plenteous in mercy.
9 He will not always chide,
neither will He keep His anger for ever.
10 He hath not dealt with us according to our sins,
nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heaven is high above the earth,
so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father pitieth his children,
so the LORD pitieth them that fear Him.
14 For He knoweth our frame;
He remembereth that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are as grass;
as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone;
and the place thereof shall know it no more.
17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon
them that fear Him,
and His righteousness unto children's children,
18 to such as keep His covenant,
and to those that remember His commandments to do them.
19 The LORD hath prepared His throne in the heavens,
and His Kingdom ruleth over all.
20 Bless the LORD, ye His angels that excel in strength,
that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His word.
21 Bless ye the LORD, all ye His hosts,
ye ministers of His, that do His pleasure.
22 Bless the LORD, all His works, in all places of His dominion.
Bless the LORD, O my soul!
Words of Worship - John
6:68b-69
Thou hast the words of eternal life, and we believe and
are sure that Thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God."
Mark 10:1-12
1 And He rose from thence, and went into the region of Judea by
the farther side of the Jordan. And the people resorted unto Him again; and as
He was wont, He taught them again.
2 And the Pharisees came to Him and asked Him, "Is it
lawful for a man to put away his wife?" -- testing Him. 3 And He answered
and said unto them,
"What did Moses command
you?"
4 And they said, "Moses suffered to write a bill of
divorcement, and to put her away."
5 And Jesus answered and said unto them,
"Because of the hardness of your
heart he wrote you this precept. 6 But from the beginning of the creation,
'God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father
and mother, and cleave to his wife, 8 and the two shall be one flesh.' So then
they are no more two, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God hath joined
together, let not man put asunder."
10 And in the house His disciples asked Him again about the same
matter. 11 And He said unto them,
"Whosoever shall put away his
wife and marry another, committeth adultery against her. 12 And if a woman
shall put away her husband and be married to another, she committeth
adultery."
Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise,
and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

"When thou makest a dinner
or a supper, call not thy friends nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen nor
thy rich neighbors, lest they also bid thee again and a recompense be made to
thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame,
the blind, and thou shalt be blessed, for they cannot recompense thee. For
thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just."
