The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

1 Peter 1:1-9

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,

To the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:

Grace unto you and peace be multiplied.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations, 7 that the trial of your faith (being much more precious than gold that perisheth, though it be tested with fire) might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen, ye love. In Him, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Psalm 111

1 Praise ye the LORD!
I will praise the LORD with my whole heart in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.
2 The works of the LORD are great,
sought out by all them that have pleasure therein.
3 His work is honorable and glorious,
and His righteousness endureth for ever.
4 He hath made His wonderful works to be remembered;
the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.
5 He hath given meat unto them that fear Him;
He will ever be mindful of His covenant.
6 He hath shown His people the power of His works,
that He may give them the heritage of the heathen.

7 The works of His hands are verity and judgment;
all His commandments are sure.
8 They stand fast for ever and ever,
and are done in truth and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption unto His people;
He hath commanded His covenant for ever; holy and reverend is His name.

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
a good understanding have all they that do His commandments. His praise endureth for ever!

Words of Worship - 2 Corinthians 8:9

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.

Mark 10:17-27

17 And when He had gone forth onto the road, there came one running, and knelt before Him and asked Him, "Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?" 18 And Jesus said unto him,

"Why callest thou Me good? There is none good but One, that is, God. 19 Thou knowest the commandments: `Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, defraud not, honor thy father and mother.'"

20 And he answered and said unto Him, "Master, all these have I observed from my youth." 21 Then Jesus, beholding him, loved him and said unto him,

"One thing thou lackest: Go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in Heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me."

22 And he was sad at that saying and went away grieved, for he had great possessions. 23 And Jesus looked round about and said unto His disciples,

"How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the Kingdom of God!"

24 And the disciples were astonished at His words, but Jesus answered again and said unto them,

"Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God."

26 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying among themselves, "Who then can be saved?" 27 And Jesus, looking upon them, said,

"With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible."

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 19:5

A false witness shall not be unpunished,
and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.

Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an envoy and desireth conditions of peace.
