The Lectionary
According to the Christian Seasons
1 Peter 1:17-25
17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons
judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in
fear. 18 For ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, such as
silver and gold, from your vain way of living which ye received by tradition
from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb
without blemish and without spot, 20 who verily was foreordained before the
foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you. 21 By Him
ye believe in God, who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory, that your
faith and hope might be in God.
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth
through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one
another with a pure heart fervently, 23 being born again, not of corruptible
seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God which liveth and abideth for
ever; 24 for
"all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away;
25 but the Word of the Lord endureth for ever."
And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.
Psalm 147
1 Praise ye the LORD! For it is good
to sing praises unto our God;
for it is pleasant, and praise is comely.
2 The LORD doth build up Jerusalem;
He gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
3 He healeth the broken in heart,
and bindeth up their wounds.
4 He telleth the number of the stars;
He calleth them all by their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and of great power;
His understanding is infinite.
6 The LORD lifteth up the meek;
He casteth the wicked down to the ground.
7 Sing unto the LORD with
thanksgiving;
sing praise upon the harp unto our God,
8 who covereth the heavens with clouds, who prepareth rain for the
earth,
who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
9 He giveth to the beast his food
and to the young ravens which cry.
10 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse;
He taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear Him,
in those that hope in His mercy.
12 Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem!
Praise thy God, O Zion!
13 For He hath strengthened the bars of thy gates;
He hath blessed thy children within thee.
14 He maketh peace in thy borders,
and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.
15 He sendeth forth His commandment upon the earth;
His word runneth very swiftly.
16 He giveth snow like wool;
He scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes;
17 He casteth forth His ice like morsels;
who can stand before His cold?
18 He sendeth out His word, and melteth them;
He causeth His wind to blow, and the waters flow.
19 He showeth His word unto Jacob,
His statutes and His judgments unto Israel.
20 He hath not dealt so with any nation; and as for His judgments,
they have not known them.
Praise ye the LORD!
Words of Worship - John
6:68b-69
Thou hast the words of eternal life, and we believe and
are sure that Thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God."
Mark 10:35-45
35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came
unto Him, saying, "Master, we would that Thou should do for us whatsoever
we shall desire." 36 And He said unto them,
"What would ye that I
should do for you?"
37 They said unto Him, "Grant unto us that
we may sit, one on Thy right hand and the other on Thy left hand, in Thy
glory." 38 But Jesus said unto them,
"Ye know not what ye
ask. Can ye drink of the cup that I drink of, and be baptized with the baptism
that I am baptized with?"
39 And they said unto Him, "We can."
And Jesus said unto them,
"Ye shall indeed drink
of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized with, also
shall ye be baptized. 40 But to sit on My right hand and on My left hand is
not Mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared."
41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be
much displeased with James and John. 42 But Jesus called them to Him and said
unto them,
"Ye know that they that
are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and their
great ones exercise authority upon them. 43 But so shall it not be among you:
but whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister, 44 and whosoever
of you would be the chiefest shall be servant of all. 45 For even the Son of
Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give His life as a
ransom for many."
Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 11:1
Cast thy bread upon the waters,
for thou shalt find it after many days.

"Salt is good; but if
the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is
neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it
out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."
